97:1 Abe
While
the odds clearly show that no part of me thinks this will happen,
this is actually my favorite scenario. Rather than letting the guy
who is historically PCTI's most well-decorated and successful player
move on from the one year when things went HISTORICALLY bad, Ben
chooses to twist the knife and put Abe right back in a front and
center position. Why let him move on? Especially when conventional
PCTI wisdom tells us that if not a captain, he will slide in the
hierarchy to a place where he suddenly becomes a great value guy in a
spot perfectly tailored for him to exceed expectations and succeed.
Twist the knife some more, twist it!

Spot-Unit
This
one is simple. Why would you willingly choose to play against the
best value pick in the draft and a guy who is destined to be a great
captain? I'd go so far as to say that if Ben did tap Spotlight, it
would be a show of arrogance on his part. You mean to tell me that
you not only think you can win without him, you think you can take
him down mono-a-mono? Won't happen.
83:1 Wes
Wouldn't exactly inject PCTI with the
shot of adrenaline that it so desperately craves. Wes did just get
married, and while we offer him our most sincere congratulations,
this would only further distract him from the importance of PCTI.
83: 1 BMAC
Also among the recently newly weds. I'd
never thought about this until 20 seconds ago, but a BMAC captaincy
would be pretty interesting. Other than Actor, who we know he loves,
do any of us know where we truly stand with McKinney? I think he
likes Dan but I'm not positive. Everyone else, I have no idea. I
don't see Ben tapping BMAC, but it would be a good twist.
65:1
Smo
A
friendship that used to be so thick...what happened? Ben knows one
way to NOT strengthen a relationship with Smo is to put him in a
position of responsibility. Plus, it's just hard to imagine Ben and
Smo going heads up against each other all off season, not those two.
If Ben were to pick his one time BFF, to me that would be the
ultimate, “F you, what is broken can never be fixed” move.
35:1
Big Bam
I
always seem to be at the center of things (because I put myself
there) and smart money says that Ben's creativity will take him a
little more out of the box than picking everyone's favorite 8 and 8
man. There is the interesting subplot that Ben and I have never
played on the same team together and he could guarantee that not
happening for another season. But then again, he also can do that by
simply not drafting me.
15:1
Act
Besides
his off the charts comedic timing and vaguely good looks, the thing
that most sticks out about Act is his competitiveness. Last time he
was captain, he helped give us PCTI's most competitive weekend. The
Act is licking his wounds after last season and my guess is, would
like nothing better than to control the makeup of his squad in this
season's revenge campaign. This could also be a shrewd pick by Ben to
help his own cause. Considering how last year went down and Act's
well publicized ability to hold a grudge, choosing Act as captain
would insure that Ben could wait until the final round of the draft
to scoop up Abe. And that is some serious value.
14:1 HOPS
Hops isn't afraid to campaign and we
know that he has no trouble getting Ben's ear. Is he pulling strings
behind the scenes? I can envision a scenario where Hops becomes
captain and uses a late round draft pick to select someone from
outside of PCTI from
his vast network of basketball friends. A power move to replace
Bruise. A la Red Aurbach drafting Larry Bird before his
senior season at Indiana State.
12:1
Sabin
The
story line is just so good. PCTI's two most well publicized losers
going head to head. One of them would win, yes. But one of them would
also lose...again. Not too long ago PCTI's unquestioned heart and
soul man, Sabin now seems like a shell of his former self. Would this
scenario set up the ultimate final chapter in the story of one of
PCTI's greatest and most divisive leaders? Either he goes out like
John Wayne, riding out in to the sunset in a blaze of glory and
gunpowder or he goes out like Old Yeller behind the shed. OR, it
interjects him with a shot of energy and Sabin transforms in to
veteran Kobe Bryant “I don't give a damn, I'm older than you”
mode for the next decade.
7:1
DTOMYS
It's
pretty clear that DAN has taken it upon himself to grease the wheels
of the PCTI freight train. For an ordinary person, that would mean
making a campaign for the captaincy. But DAN has a certain Ric flair
about the way he operates, and I don't think it will be that simple.
No question DAN has been in Ben's ear, but I doubt it's to campaign
for himself. Dan is Thurlow Weed, the consummate political boss. The
puppeteer yanking on the strings like it's an N*SYNC music video. So
the question is, who is his Abraham Lincoln or JC Chasez? I am still
keeping the odds low, just in case he turns inward, but smart money
stays away from DAN at this price.
4:1
Cockboy
What
better way to welcome back one of PCTI's all time characters than to
give him a starring role? It's actually kind of hard to believe that
Don hasn't held the captaincy before. This pick seems to make sense
on several levels. Would it hurt Donley that he didn't witness the
action from a year ago?
I liked the part where you don't get to see your odds until you select Nature Boy Host, adds to the intrigue
ReplyDeleteI also like the idea of BC and Ben never playing together... Other than last year... And year 1... Which accounts for 40% of PCTI's.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget about PCTI IV in Scottsdale. It's actually 60%.
