A huge
signing for PCTI comes from the Brentwood Pick-Up program and the middle
Tennessee area. Huckins was a classmate and teammate of Ben Wilson, joining Ben
and TP as our 3rd Farragut High alum. (That ties Father Ryan,
Brentwood, and the DK School of Hard Knocks – Dallas, for most alum players.
Tie breaker goes to Father Ryan because of Deuce) Kyle attended and played at
Emory and Henry College, which is not a college I just made up.
Turbo,
earning his nickname from resembling the American Gladiator, earned his 5 stars
because of his great all-around game. He spends most of his time in the post
and will immediately become a match-up problem for the opposing team. Kyle uses
a combination of finesse and skill along with strength and athleticism. Not
only will he be one of the better finishers around the basket, he is also a
knock down 3-point shooter and an above average passer. While his defense isn’t
considered to be a strength, it hasn’t proven to be a weakness either. Here are
a couple of quotes from other members of PCTI that have played in a game with
him:
“Big men
dominance comes through the BEAST. End of quote.” – BC
“He’s the
type of player who’s going to give the reigning PCTI BIGS nightmares for weeks
after they fly back to their wives and children. He’ll be a threat to break the
PCTI single game scoring record every time he steps on the court. Hell, put Smo
on him and he may catch Wilt.” – Spotlight
“Must see
theatre that will have you on the edge of your seat until the potentially
brittle end. Judge Dredd meets bubble boy.” – Ben Wilson
Now for the
big question: How will he translate to PCTI? We all know it is an adjustment to
go from playing in pick-up games that tend to run slow to the intensity that
PCTI produces. My biggest question will be if he can produce at the same level
all weekend and his body doesn’t fall apart. He is in great shape and one of
the stronger participants, but it is a big adjustment. Another concern is will
he be as aggressive as he needs to be. For many of us, not messing up or being
a “ball hog” is something we were worried about starting off but find our
comfort zone. Being a good post player, he should have plenty of shots and
needs to take them. Overall, he has the skill to be the first guy off the board
but are the captains going to be prepared to take a newbie at the top, or will
he fall?
The MOST
IMPORTANT thing of all of this is whether he will fit in or not. The best thing
about the people we have added over the years are how well they fit into this “club”.
His interests include playing basketball, drinking, watching football,
drinking, lifting, and drinking. He is a Buckeyes, Carolina Panthers, and
Nashville Predators fan. He works as an Ops Director at Sharecare, formerly Healthways
(knows Parker Woodard from that), is married to Cari and has a big ass Great
Dane named Ava. Welcome Kyle Woodrow Huckins!
Big addition and PCTI’s new BIGGEST big man.
