I thought it might be fun to take a look at effective FG% for PCTI
IV. As a reminder, the formula for Effective
Field Goal Percentage (eFG%) is (FGs made + 3FGs made * .5) / FG attempts. This
statistic adjusts for the fact that 3 balls are worth one more point than 2
pointers. For example, suppose McKinney goes 4 for 10 with 2 threes, while Smo
goes 5 for 10 with 0 threes. Each player would have 10 points from his shot
attempts, and thus would have the same effective field goal percentage (50%).
Without
further droning, here are the eFG% leaders from PCTI IV, along with their overall FG% and differential:
Player eFG% FG% Differential
Pitto 59.8 47.5 12.3
Sabin 50.0 45.1 4.9
Smo 47.6 47.6 0
Joe 46.8 38.3 8.5
BC 46.7 43.5 3.2
McKinney 46.3 37.0 9.3
Spotlight 45.8 36.1 9.7
Abe 43.5 36.5 7.0
Krow 42.9 37.1 5.8
Bruise 40.2 39.0 1.2
Esk 37.1 37.1 0
Beas 36.4 31.8 4.6
Donley 36.4 32.2 4.2
Ben 35.5 30.2 5.3
Hops 23.4 18.8 4.6
Wes 10.5 10.5 0
Clearly, players like Pitto, Spot, McKinney, and Joe who take and make a lot of 3s see an increase to their effective field goal percentage, while players like Esk, Wes, Smo, and Bruise are disproportionately impacted by the lack of 3s that they take or make.
Sabin
DK ahead of me in eFG%??!? I quit.
ReplyDeleteYou're no different than anyone else in that regard.
ReplyDeleteHave to admit, I'm a little shocked Wes's differential isn't in the negative... Trending UP!
