Top 10 Dallas Moments

As I am about to get ready to leave tomorrow to go back to where I grew up, I decided to post my top 10 favorite memories or things I enjoyed about Dallas. I hope everyone enjoys reading about what I enjoy.

10. Discovering Taco Cabana – This is more about the food in general. Dallas is so big it has great places for every pallet. Taco Cabana is fast food Tex-Mex. There is one in ATL but not nearly as good. You get a good amount of food for you money (as long as it’s not brand new and different menu). I haven’t eaten Taco Bell one time since I moved to Dallas.

9. Iron Cactus and their margs – Fellas. Marg me. I’m not a huge fan of Margaritas, especially $10 ones, but 2 of these are all you need for a good night. Maybe I just haven’t had many true margaritas, but these are fantastic. In the heart of downtown Dallas, with some good Mexican food makes this one of my favorite spots.

8. Fourth of July – Carrie met some cool people through work and they ended up having other friends that were cool (remember Joe can’t commit to much of anything and Danny I think had moved by this time). This was a pool party that did not let down. No point in dwelling on this.

7. Living 2 min from downtown, 10 from Uptown – This was a great opportunity for me to see one of the coolest cities in the US, for very cheap. Apparently the part of town I lived in used to me awesome. Then it was overrun with cocaine and crack (hence why I lived there). Luckily for me, Deep Ellum was on the rise but rent was still very cheap. I was right across the street from the farmer’s market, 10 min walk to downtown (2 min drive) and a 10 minute drive to trendy Uptown, home of the most $30,000 millionaires. Wish I could have stayed there.

6. Sabin getting put into an MMA move by Toby – There is this guy in Sabin’s pick-up game that gets after it on defense. While he is very nice, he isn’t afraid to voice his opinion. On top of that, this guy is a beefed up dude (no homo). One day, he is guarding Sabin, and Jeff does not take a liking to some of his aggressive behavior. On one defensive possession they are jawing and getting tangled up. Next thing I know Toby has young Jeffrey by his arm, both on the ground, with Jeffrey’s arm being pulled up through the crotchal region by Toby. Toby is claiming he could break Jeffrey’s arm, at which point people intervened to tap Jeffrey out. Upon release Sabin jumped up and demanded Toby get out of his game and never return. Men in the 30’s wrestling on the floor of a gym over pick-up basketball games was one of the highlights of my life.

5. Trips to Austin – I’m not going to act like I don’t like Nashville. I think Nashville is awesome and actually getting better. BUT Austin is like Nashville on steroids without the shriveled balls. The lakes, the restaurants, the music scene, the drinking scene, and the hookers make this one of the coolest cities I’ve ever been to. This place has hipsters everywhere (love) and musical acts come from everywhere to play here. SXSW and ACL are two of the best music festivals in the country. Not to mention the best barbeque restaurant I’ve been to is 30 min outside of downtown. 3 hour drive from Dallas is nothing for a good trip.

4. Playing pick-up second day there - I moved down to Dallas on a Thursday which I called Danny and told him. On Saturday morning at 6:30 am I was meet Jeff and playing pick-up with his crew for the first of many times. From then on I was on the email list and tried to make it every Wed and Sat.

3. Getting a job – I searched for a job for about a month and a half before landing one at the Ritz-Carlton restaurant. This lasted about 2 weeks before my friend called me saying there was someone looking for someone to work for him. This was a big boy job that paid a lot more with more benefits. This was crucial because I could actually afford to do stuff.

2. Going to Mumford and Sons – Being PCTI’s biggest hipster means I am always trying to be the first to hear a new band or at least like them. A couple years ago a band started there American tour. Well obvi I knew their songs. So I got me some tickets and next thing you know Carrie, her good friend, Joe, and I got to sing Little Lion Man with Mumford and Sons and 200 of our closest strangers. Was allsome

1. Proposing – I obviously had to put this. Not only because I got engaged, but because it was so romantic by me. As I’ve boasted about before, I’m very creative. Just know it got friends and family involved from miles away and also utilized Dallas
