Yesterday I covered the Not Top 5 for PCTI and the honorable mention.
Now for the Top 10 things that helped PCTI get to where it is:
10. Saturday Night Dinner – I figured this would be a good time to get to know people, but dinner and the night out after has been so awesome the last two years, I just hope this year is half as good. Hats off to Danny for making this a mandatory group thing and choosing 2 perfect places. Hats off to BC for showing us the hot spots to get ripped in Lex.
9. The roommate draft – Honestly, this thing came because Danny mistyped, but I love the twist. I was nervous and excited and it turned out great. Great job by the captains for doing what we asked and going outside their comfort zone. Funniest part was Pitto trying to bribe anyone who would get him and Brian in the same room.
8. The original draft – Yeah it would be fun to just try and split up teams, but the draft gives us some much stuff to talk about, gets people pissed, makes it fun to guess at what someone will do, fun to make fun of someone for a pick, and fun when Josh doesn’t know who all is involved in PCTI. Can’t wait to be last pick! (j/k that won’t happen as long as Pitto is in the draft)
7. Stat Keepers – Not sure whose idea this was but BC finding WL Stats and how great they were was incredible. Let me take a minute and expand on Lexington as WL is one of the first things I think of when I think of Lexington. The night life was awesome. Bars were fun, it was warm, women were attractive, not too many douche bags, and (like most college towns) the beer was cheap. Food was awesome. I can’t even tell you the name of the restaurants, but I know I ate like I hadn’t eaten in a month. Hotel was great and connected to Rupp Arena. The gym couldn’t be better. Great host. Perfect start for this thing.
6. Sabin getting Defensive MVP in PCTI II – This could have been tagged as MVP and D-MVP becoming captains, which is a great way to determine that, but Sabin took this to another level. Maybe it was spending 6 full days over 2 years with these strangers, maybe it was watching the videos so much he thought he knew everyone, or maybe he just thought this is what PCTI needed, but Sabin decided to become the villain and start attacking the other team. I hate it. But it has made for an interesting offseason. Honestly, outside of Sabin and Joe being unbearable to listen to when they are talking about each other, Sabin has dished it out, but he has also taken it. It has been fun and Sabin better hope he backs it up this year.
5. The podcast – Joe is due all the credit. I honestly can’t wait til Wednesday morning anymore because I want to hear who is on the pod and listen to it. Joe is a great host, BC is so good a facilitating/asking questions, and DK is great at getting people and saying “Yo, I got a question for you,” before each question he fires out. I crave more podcasts.
4. Expanding to 8 guys and 3 days – We knew we would be flawed in our first attempt, but I cannot believe we played 6 games in the span of about 26 hours with 7 players per team. I’m surprised no one got seriously injured or worst. We have made a lot of improvements, but expanding to 8 players per team was crucial. Also, expanding to playing over 3 days was necessary. Also wrapped into this is the people we have added (and subtracted). Thanks for coming Chase. It’s been real Hite. The thing is I honestly liked all of them. But the people we have added and the participation we have gotten from this next this to the next level. Scott and I have had some great g-chats. Beasley is going to be a great addition. The Spotlight is the best nickname that’s come about in a while. Smo is basically my best friend (he has seen my apartment).
3. The inception of the blog – Joe coming in with 2 huge additions to PCTI. As the director of our media department, he has expanded PCTI into something that is an everyday thing. He has basically Zuckerberg’d us. I am waiting for an email, pod, or blog or thinking of a blog 90% of the time I’m awake and 15% of the time I’m sleeping (the other 10% is hoping to have sex, having sex, or thinking about just having had sex). And now the awards for writing is just another brilliant move by The Doctor. Big thanks to Joe for making us think about PCTI non-stop!
2. DVD’s – Ingenuous. Brilliant. Now I can’t think of PCTI without the DVD’s. At first I thought, let’s not get them because that is too damn expensive, but thank goodness I don’t ever listen to myself. There’s not much more to say, but Deuce is the man and has earned every penny.
1. Pitto, Brian, and Danny coming up with PCTI – Not exactly how it all went down, but apparently Pitto and Brian had an idea to get guys together and travel for a guy’s weekend and play some basketball. I’m sure many of us have thought something similar to this, but these guys made it a reality. Everyone knows what PCTI is, and having a basketball weekend in a random city would be fun, but what has become of PCTI and how great it is, is due to everyone involved and everyone’s contribution. But thanks to Brian, Pitto, and Danny for making sure it actually happened.
First!
ReplyDeleteI don't see how the addition of me wasn't #1, but other than that...seconded!
ReplyDeleteI thought the "TI" would have to have been the first thing. Can you imagine calling this "PC"? Everyone would ask why you are traveling to Lexington, Dallas, etc. for your personal computer.
ReplyDeletePitto makes a good point. Can we get the story about how this thing became known as PCTI instead of TPCI? Inquiring minds want to know. Nice content, Hops. Enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a pleasure to come home this evening after a trade show (I think everyone I know is tired of hearing about my one day this month leaving my apartment) and reading all these.
ReplyDeleteFirst, Sabin makes his best post of all time. Then you follow it up with yours.
My favs:
#1-Me calling BC immediately after Pitto and Brian called me, so excited I couldn't even see straight. His response was chillin to the spine, shooting me down and thus giving me material to shove in his face for the next 20 years.
#2-Great points. Video's are going NOWHERE, so either watch them for entertainment, or do what Wes does and just pay, never receive them, and never complain.
#3-I wonder what I did without the blog. Classic example of the things you learn living on the Best Coast and not being in Nashville.
#4-Not only is it easier on the body, but I added two of my guys, which almost got me in trouble with Hops and Pitto until they proved themselves (Thankfully, they did).
He ain't me and I ain't him.
ReplyDeletePure Gold.....
ReplyDeleteDanny do you still have my PCTI 1 DVDs?
Joe, always trying to make sure everyone knows what he has done in this thing.....HOLLYWOOD
