PCTI/Famous TV (Movie) Athlete Comparisons Part 2

Jeff Sabin-Rudy Ruettiger, Rudy.

I don't think there is any question the only person that has a burning passion for a sport/event as much as Rudy loved ND football is Jeff Sabin and PCTI.  Although Sabin's skill level edges off Rudy's both take a similar approach to the game, not caring what anyone thinks of them and only focused on being the best they can be.  It's funny, I actually had a conversation with one of Sabin's HS teammates who (although they are friends now) said him and the other seniors despised Sabin (who has a couple years younger) because he would show up to practice with a chip on his shoulder, playing balls to the wall and not the least bit concerned who he would upset.  If you scroll to the 3:07 mark, it's probably a similar situation to Sabin and his older teammates.

Michael Beasley-Sunshine, Remember the Titans.

Long haired, free spirited California boys that love to be a part of nature.  I wish I could find the video, but couldn't you see Beas doing a similar stretching/yoga/sotai sequence that Sunshine was doing outside his first day of school at TC Williams?  Both are athletic, quick and skilled players that form great relationships with their teammates, and are despised by the opposing team.

Josh Stephen-Dottie Henson, A League of Their Own.

In my opinion, Dottie Henson is the greatest movie athlete of all time.  Like Stephen, both possess great measurables, skillset, and an unflappable approach to the game.  Some question their love for the game-Stephen because of his apparent disinterest on the court (despite playing harder than everyone else, he still has that reputation), and Dottie because everyone had to force her to try out, play and then stay on the Peaches.

Scott Donley-Boobie Miles, Friday Night Lights (Movie).

When both these guys are playing well and things are going great, boy do they love the camera.  Although the argument can be made that Boobie is slightly better than Donley is at his respected sport, both rely on a unique blend of size and athleticism, combined with a confidence level that has them both convinced they are by far and away the best player in whatever game they play in.  Donley might debate that he feels like that, but I say otherwise.  What other type person would fire off three 3's in his first five minutes as a member of PCTI?  Well, probably Boobie if he was in it.

  1. You are nailing the comparisons. I was originally going to tell you to take "Rudy" and shove it up your ass, but then I watched the video clip and was so inspired that I realized that his heart beats the same as my own. So instead I'll say that this is the finest work of your blogging career.

  2. I can also see Beas kissing Eskildsen to prove a point.
