Effective FG%

I thought it might be fun to take a look at effective FG% for PCTI IV. As a reminder, the formula for Effective Field Goal Percentage (eFG%) is (FGs made + 3FGs made * .5) / FG attempts. This statistic adjusts for the fact that 3 balls are worth one more point than 2 pointers. For example, suppose McKinney goes 4 for 10 with 2 threes, while Smo goes 5 for 10 with 0 threes. Each player would have 10 points from his shot attempts, and thus would have the same effective field goal percentage (50%).

Without further droning, here are the eFG% leaders from PCTI IV, along with their overall FG% and differential:

Clearly, players like Pitto, Spot, McKinney, and Joe who take and make a lot of 3s see an increase to their effective field goal percentage, while players like Esk, Wes, Smo, and Bruise are disproportionately impacted by the lack of 3s that they take or make.

BREAKING: Skillz, Rice Owls Agree to Terms

Skillz has accepted a promotion with the University of Rice in Houston as the Men's Assistant Basketball Coach as of Monday, June 3rd (officially hitting the mainstream media on Friday, June 7th).  This will mark the man they call Skillz first legitimate coaching job in the Division 1 NCAA ranks, something that is next to unheard of for a 26 year old ugly guy with big calves. 

More important than Skillz 15 hour days for the last four years paying off is that this promotion could have SIGNIFICANT effects on the future of PCTI5, in a variety of ways.  The most important is that the grey (or is it gray), white and royal blue color scheme is one of the best there is, and no longer will PCTI be a one dimensional, Pac 10 (is that a conference?) sponsored basketball organization. The partnership of Adidas and Rice could be questioned by many, by the color scheme can not.

Additionally, you have to wonder.  Could the below picture be replaced by the best shooting 35% from the field white boys come April 2014?  Time will tell.
